Located at the north end of downtown Salem, Grant Neighborhood borders the Capitol Mall and encompasses a beautiful, historic part of Salem. Nearly all of our homes and buildings date to between about 1900 and 1940. Grant was the first to be designated a Heritage Neighborhood by the Salem Historic Landmarks Commission. We have one neighborhood park, Grant Park, which is adjacent to Grant Community School. Grant Community School is a dual language immersion school for pre-K through 5th grade. Our neighborhood boasts about 150 businesses, six churches, numerous historic buildings, and about 1275 households. The Grant Neighborhood Association was founded February 2, 1976 and encompasses the smallest area of any of the nineteen Salem Neighborhoods.

We currently have a full Executive Board with 15 members. The Board is active in pursuing the 10 goals that we have set for our neighborhood:

  1. Preserve Single Family Housing

  2. Maintain the Historical Character of Our Neighborhood

  3. Support Local Businesses

  4. Improve Traffic Safety

  5. Provide Stewardship of Grant Park

  6. Champion the North Downtown Plan

  7. Enhance Our Relationship with Grant Community School

  8. Promote Neighborhood Safety & Livability

  9. Monitor Vacant Properties

  10. Increase Participation in the Neighborhood Association
